Me in Yokohama 2008
Today I want to write about experiencing the magic as a performer. In the picture to the left is me experiencing the wonder of Yokohama. What I mean about this is sharing the feeling of the magic with the audience. The master of this was Doug Henning. If you have ever seen any of his performances you know what I mean. When he performed an illusion, or a close-up effect, he felt the wonder with the audience if not more than them. I think this is a good way to share the feeling of magic when you perform. If the performer feels the magic theoretically is should be transferred to the audience. Another performer who did this in different way was Cardini. In his case the magic happened to him and his character would be confused and bewildered by the magic happening in his hands. In my own performances I try to feel the Magic along with the audience. The show becomes a journey of me and my audience through a magician experience. When I write me shows this is a major technique I think about creating the show. I try to create the show like I am a guide taking the audience through a magician world trying not to be creepy like Johnny Depp’s Willie Wonka.
What do you think about this technique? Let me know!
