Terushita Is the Terminator
Last Saturday (Jan. 16, 2010) I had to goto Takamatsu and it gave me a chance to get involved in the Shikoku Magic Friends Magic Club again. Back in Canada I was involved and enjoyed going to the Victoria Magic Circle since I was 16 years old. Before that I was in the SYM group in Victoria. It was great to be and involved in a magic club. We planned out activies and goals that we want to achieve over this year. One of our main goals is to help motivate and mentor some of the younger members. As well as work on increasing our creative and performance skills. In March we will hold our public show and that should be fun. After the meeting we headed out to my friend Terushita’s magic bar Intiki Magician. When we arrived Terushita showed us his true identity as the Terminator. We relaxed there for a while and then Shinnosuke and I headed back to Ehime where we live. During our drive back Shinnosuke talked about some magic projects we will work on during this year and arrived home. It is always great to connected and work with other magicians. I am looking forward to the next meeting in February where I am conducting the main part of the meeting. Should be great! Once Shinnotsuke and I work out details for one of our projects I will be posting about it on here . More details to come!

Great Magic Table
This picture is of the magic table I loved when I worked at the now closed Magic Bar Momentos. There was the main table which was good but I loved performing at this smaller one on the other side of the bar. It was custom made for the Magic Bar with room for the magician in the middle. In the picture you can see the blue close-up mat, that is were I sat. The table had prop drawers and a great servante. I could also control the lighting around the table from under the table. Before I came to Japan I rarely performed sit down close-up magic I normally did table hopping style close-up magic and never sat down. After coming to Japan and working here is where I fell in love with sit down close-up magic. I felt the situation was more intimate than standing up and doing close-up magic for me. The table was perfect size to reach and talk to any of the spectators. Working here I did not only perform magic but had to make conversation with the guests before and after the show and this table make it the perfect setting. This bar is now closed and I really miss performing here. If I ever have a chance to open a magic bar I will make a table similar to this one. My magic really grew in sophistication performing at this table and I miss it!

Mr. Momentos, Cyril, and me
On September 19, 2009, Momentos Magic Bar in Takamatsu will close after 22 years of business. This is the magic bar were I worked for 2 years from 2004 to 2006. Mr. Momentos will move onto another business after the bar is closed. I own a great deal to Mr. Momentos, as he gave me my first big magic break in Japan by having me as a guest performer at his bar before I became a regular performer 3 times a week. During the time I was there is wife and assistant passed away in 2004 from cancer. In 2006 Mr. Momentos moved the bar to Nagoya for 2 years and then returned back to Takamatsu in the fall of 2008. The picture on the left is when Mr. Momentos took me to see Cyril’s show in Takamatsu. Many other great magicians got their magic bar experience from working in his magic bar. My Good friends. Shinotsuke, Jack Amano, and Terushita. We will miss Momentos and wish Mr. Momentos all the best in his next endeavor. This ends a magic era in Takamatsu.

Prepping
I am preparing for a magic competition. It has been years since I have done that. The competition is a fun bar magician competition that will be held at my friends magic bar. The bar is called Bar Intinki Magican. The competition is Saturday October 3, 2009 at the magic bar in Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan. I am looking forward to this competition, partly as it is a fun competition and I will get to see a lot of my Japanese magic friends. As well it has given me some motivation to create some brand new material. During the event I will try to get a video taken of my performance. The event is open to the public at the bar and the basic cost is 2000 yen. For information click here but if you want to see and don’t read Japanese let me know I will give you the details!

Visiting Momentos Magic Bar in 2004
Still working hard still on my close up show over the past few days. As well working more bugs out of the stage show. One thing I am looking forward to in the next few months is the Magic Bar competition in Takamatsu at my friends magic bar “The Intiki Magician“. Within the next few days I will post the details here about the event. I will join the contest so I am working on that routine as well. Been many years since I competed in any kind of Magic Competition. This one seems like fun so I will enter. I like to have fun people and my friends bar is perfect for it.
The picture on the left is from a different magic bar. This is the old magic bar I used to work at called Momentos. Sad news that he is closing the bar this September after 22 years of business. Lots of great memories there. That’s all for my blabbing for today. Tomorrow I will update with a new Magic Audioboo.
Tonight I will head to Takamatsu and visit some magic bars which I have not been to in a long time. When I am at them I hope to do some short Audioboos. I will also be twittering. Sometime tomorrow I will have a blog up about visiting them. I will be going to Momentos where I used to work from 2004 to 2006. Momentos will be closing its doors after almost 25 years of Magic. So I have to make one last visit there. Then after I plan to head to my others friends magic bar Intiki Magician Terushita’s Bar. Should be fun!
