My Review Of The Essential Magic Conference 2011

EMC2011

Luis de Matos, Rudy Coby, William Kalush, and David Copperfield only at EMC!

The second Essential Magic Conference was held July 7, 8, and 9 2011. And wow it was another great year. Here is my review from last years event. Again this year the event was 3 days packed with great speakers. There were some returnees from last year like Eric Mead and Max Maven who are always great to watch and hear, but also some new presenters like Rudy Coby, David Kaye (Silly Billy), Fuji Akira, David Berglas and a whole lot more. The event and the content was excellent and was equal to if not better than last year. Both events had very high quality performances and talks that all magicians should see. One of the best parts of  this years event was the tour David Copperfield gave of his magic museum.
On the technical side there were a few updates to the viewing system like the ability to now watch the event from an iOS device like an iPad. They also seemed to move the live chat which I believe was under the video feed last year to the side bar which I think was better. There were some technical glitches this year especially during session 7 which was the first session on the third day. From the EMC staff explanation it was a problem with their provider’s stream leaving Portugal. This caused session 7 to be unwatchable. However by session 8 the problem seemed to have been solved and during that time they created an backup stream to help those that where still having issues through another provider. I know some people where upset by this but the EMC staff was working hard to resolve this issue and they did. Sometimes problems happen unexpectedly and there is nothing you can do about it. However I applaud the EMC staff who got things back on track.
One sad point was that the live chat seemed to be a place this year from a lot of complainers which caused me not to want to use the chat. Most of the event seemed fine for me except the one session where they had big issed but other times it was working great. People who had difficulties at really brought the feeling down with what I think where complaints there we too strong. Such as this is a rip off etc.  EMC is far from that. Anyways such is the net.
Overall I loved this years event and I applaud  Luis de Matos, Marco Tempest, and David Britland from another great event and I look forward to next year event.

Essential Magic Conference 2011 is Coming!

Essential Magic ConferenceWell the Essential Magic Conference is getting close to its second conference this July. This year it will be held July 7,8,9, 2011. I attended last year and I will attend this year. You can click here to read my review of the 2010 Conference. It looks like thay have a great line up this year. Some of the presenters from last year are back with a new ones for this year. There will be 33 presenters at this event. The surprise for me this year is that David Copperfield will participating. For the list of all the presenters for this year you can check here. The nice thing out this conference as it is an internet conference you have access to the content after the live event and the DVD’s that come after. There were a few technical issues last year and I hope that they will be solved. Also, last year it took some time after the live sessions before the replay feed was available to watch. This year it would be nice to see them be uploaded faster after the event than last year.
I am really looking forward to this year and I hope to see you there as well.
Below is a video highlighting last years conference.

My Review Of The Essential Magic Conference

Watching The EMC

Watching The EMC

The Essential Magic Conference, the first digital magic conference, was held from July 15 to the 17 2010. When I first saw this advertised I knew I had to be apart of this event and I signed up right away. I was not wrong this was a wonderful event. Over those 3 days I had almost no sleep. The live event was held from 12am Japan time until about 7:30am because of the time zone. The event was organized by Luis de Matos, Marco Tempest and David Britland. They did a brilliant job bringing a big and new project like this to life. It had 33 speakers and they all where at the Studio in Portugal, and the participants watched live from the Internet. Participants also get 1 year access to the website which will have all the sessions as on demand viewing after the event and as well receive the event on DVD. The cost for this event was about 75$US which was well worth it. Below the break I will talk about what I enjoyed about the conference.

EMC Videos

As I mentioned before I have already signed up for the Essential Magic Conference that is being held on-line this July. I am so interested in this not only for the magic but how they are integrating magic with technology, the internet, and Social Networking. They have a lot of great videos already posted that are open for public viewing.  So far they are excellent and shows what will come this July. Below is their most recent video of Apollo Robbins. Check this one out then head the their site and check out the other ones.

The 5th Shikoku Magic Convention and Others

Shikoku Magic Convention 2009

So far this year I have plans to attend only one magic convention and that is the Shikoku Magic Convention which will be held in Takamatsu on May 8th and 9th, 2010. Last year it was a great convention. Some of the performers this year are Bravo Nakatani and Hikari. Looking forward to this convention.

There is also another convention I would like to attend and that is the which will be held on the Internet in July. This is the Essential Magic Conference. This is a cool concept and I hope that I can attend it should be easy because I can attend at home. I like it because living in Japan it’s hard to visit any other conventions outside of Japan. This convention can give me the opportunity to attend from the comfort of my MackBookPro.  Also Dodd Vickers from the Magic Newswire did a This Week In Magic episode on this convention which can be found here.

As I mentioned I have only plan to attend the one convention and will probably attend the online convention but I sure hope that I can go to at least one more during the summer. During the Shikoku Magic Convention I hope to send updates by Audioboo, and some video via YouTube from the convention as well as blogging from it.

The Shikoku Magic Convention was Great!

Shikoku Magic Convention

Shikoku Magic Convention

The Shikoku Magic Convention held on May 9 and 10th 2009 in Takamatsu Kagawa Prefecture was great! I have not be able to attend a Magic Convention for almost 3 years. I enjoyed my time to see old friends and meet some new ones. It is always great to connect with people of the same interests. I must apologize for the bad photos as forgot to bring my regular digital camera so I had to use my iPhone. Anyways after the break I will explain about the 2 day convention! Continue reading

Shikoku Magic Convention

So I found out that there is a magic convention happening next month in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture about an hour from where I live now. It is going to be held on the 9th and 10th of May. I hope to attend it! Last time it was in Kochi City in Kochi Prefecture and I was lucky enough to be a performer at that event! Once I find out more information on the upcoming convention I will post information about it!
