Halloween Magic Fun

This year’s Halloween was awesome but very busy! My magic buddy Shinnosuke and I had shows together in Takamatsu Kagawa Prefecture. Our first show was a stage show at Yonden Plaza ( Shikoku Electric). We performed an hour stage show in their modern electricity show room. It was like performing in a very modern  home. There was a great turn out the the show was fun for both of us. This was the first time we performed a stage show together professionally and it was great fun. After that we hustled down the the other end of the shopping district in Takamatsu to perform close-up magic for people attended the shopping district Halloween event. We both were very tired, but had great shows and great fun. This week we will both be working the Intiki Magic Bar from Wednesday to Saturday. Should be fun!

Things I Enjoy About Performing Magic

Enjoying Performing

Enjoying Performing

I enjoy performing magic. That may be obvious but I think that to be a good magician you do really have to enjoy performing and I have talked about this before on my blog and on my AudioBoo. However today I want to talk about some of the things I enjoy about performing magic.

The first thing I really enjoy about performing is the people. If there were no people to watch my magic I would not be a performer. I enjoy people and how I can enjoy time with them having fun doing magic. I enjoy when they smile and laugh and the things they do. When they enjoy what I am doing  I enjoy it even better. When they have fun watching and interacting with my show I know that I am being entertaining and I am happy that they can enjoy and escape things during my performance.  The people become a big part of my show and I enjoy the interactions I have with them.

Another aspect of performing that I think is the intellectual challenge of putting together the show itself. Working out how effects fit together and how they fit me and the feeling I want to create during my show is a great challenge. Finding good effects that the audience will enjoy and working on ways to maximize magic theory, performance and fun together is enjoyable for me. Basically building a good show that the people will enjoy is very satisfying.

I also enjoy visiting the many places I get to perform at and enjoy performing in a variety of places. Sometimes certain venues can be challenging to perform at and once it again it brings that intellectual challenge to me that I enjoy. Once again meeting various people at different places is always fun.

These are just a few of the many reasons why I enjoy performing but the main one is common through all reasons and that is the first reasons I mentioned the people. The main reason is that I get to perform great people at many various places and that is what it is all about for me. What do you enjoy about performing magic?

Remember Magic Can Come To You

Enjoying Magic

Enjoying Magic

In this age of demand media we love to watch our entrainment when we want and how we want. We use our computers, DVRs, iPhones, iPads, video games consoles and a lot more devices to watch TV, movies and consume content when and where we want. We have busy lives and many of us prefer not to go to the entertainment but rather have the entertainment come to us. Well, I feel magic is one of the few art forms which can come to the customer. Depending on the needs of the customer we can perform at almost any venue, from a clients home, office, or theatre. We magicians can bring the entertainment to our clients. We can create the entertainment in the comfort of our clients most conformable places. I believe we should work hard to be able to perform for clients and where they want and bring a magical entertainment experience to them. I believe this to be very powerful and one of the reasons why I love magic. Magicians can bring a magic experience to groups, then bring more powerful experience to individuals in those groups in their own spaces. This I truly believe makes magic unique and fit the entertainment needs of the modern age. Just something to think about.

Excited About Performing This Weekend

Getting ready

Getting ready

This weekend, as I have mentioned before, is the Shikoku Magic Friends Club Annual public magic show, and I am excited about it. Well I do a lot of shows so why am I excited about this one? Well as I have mentioned in my blog before and on some of my Magic AudioBoos is that I enjoy performing with other magicians. I love working with people I can’t normally work with. So I am looking forward to enjoying performing the show with them.

I am also excited because I am performing a few effects I have been revamping over the past few months. These are some of the old effects I used to do years ago that I decided to re-work so that they work better in Japanese. This show will give me the opportunity to test two of these stage routines out.

Another reason I am excited about this show because if things go well this weekend this show may turn into a monthly public show. So a few of us are working hard to make this a good event so that we will be able to continue to do this show on a monthly bases. So I better stop blogging and get back to work. Tomorrow night is the meeting then Sunday the show!

Don’t Double Book Shows!

Perfoming for Fun

Perfoming for Fun

During December many of us magicians are very busy with seasonal parties. For some of us it’s our busiest time of the year. It’s a great time for performing, however you must be careful not to double book yourself. Don’t take a better gig over one you have already booked just because the new offer is more cash. This will give you a bad reputation. Of course there are certain cases where this can  happen  but you should try to always follow through on your original booking or you will get a bad reputation. I have seen this too many times. You also need to be wise about the length of time between shows and to take into account delays in shows, travel time, set up, and take down. You need to give yourself breathing time, you don’t want to be late for shows. When you book your shows be honest with the clients about the times so the show and set up times can be set so you do have enough time to get from a to b and set up on time. Also be careful not to burn yourself out! I did this one year and got extremely sick. I didn’t cancel any shows but I was so dead tired and sick until my last show of the year I perhaps made myself more sick. This season can be exciting and fun because of the many shows you will book but be careful and look after your clients and look after yourself and most of all have fun!
