Today I wanted to write how I prepare for my stage shows. I use the same ideas both in Canada and Japan. I`ll will talk about smaller show set-up like at dinners and other small social functions. As I mentioned before in an AudioBoo I keep all my effects set in their own kits. So when I have prepped a show layout I put them into my table and extra prop case along with my written show line up with all the accessories and things I will need during the show. This includes my clothes, nail polish, pens and anything else I will need. Depending on the and type of stage I show I like to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the show. My actual show set up after my initial prep before arriving at the venue takes me only 10 minutes to set up. After the show is set I go and wash my hands, and check my hair and clothes. I also check with the the venue host to make sure they are all ready as well. Of course if I`m doing a show than needs musics cues or lighting cues of course I arrive at the venue much earlier. At this point I have about 10 minutes before the show. I prearrange with the venue to have my table and other equipment moved to the performance area. In most cases I try to get someone else to do this and not myself. Next I do my last minute pocket prop check and well work through any special lines I will need during the performance. I also make sure someone at the event, no mater what kind of event it is, introduce me. I then go out and do the show.
Of course this is a very basic explanation of my set up procedure for a small type stage show but may be interesting for those of you who have never performed a stage show before. If you have any comments please let me know!
