Keeping Notes On Your Magic

I have learned over the years that you must keep track of your magic shows, ideas, and routines. It is very important for your creative mind to keep stuff written down and organized, otherwise you will forget! At least this is true for me. Over the years I have tried many methods. In this posting I will briefly explain what I use to keep track of my magic notes, shows line ups, and routine ideas.

The picture to the left is my magic notebook. I have it organized into an idea section, show layouts, routines, and things I want and need to learn. As well as I have some pockets in it for adding notes I write elsewhere and or for instructions for effects I am working on or anything else I may need to keep with it. Its is key to keep it organized so that when I go back later I can understand 1 what I wrote and 2 why I wrote it. This way my brain keeps organized and I can carefully develop my magic and able to read the notes to keep track of how things are going.

Of course I can’t always carry this around with me so what do I do when I get a sudden idea? Well I use my iPhone voice recorder and I use the Cardfolio created by Josh Jay. It keeps a deck of cards, a small notepad and a pen. I usually have this with me when I am out so I can take notes if I think of something.
